Dental Insurance Coverage for dental veneers

Tuesday, Aug. 17th 2010 9:28 AM

I was a smoker for over fifteen years.  Although I have quite smoking now for over two year my teeth are really bad looking do to my prior smoking.   I had whiten treatment done before but it really did not hurt my teeth to look that much better.

I was talking to my new dentist under my dental plan that told me about getting dental veneers as a way of making my teeth look 100 percent better.   My current dental insurance however will not cover for veneers to be done.  What can I do get veneers?

Dental Insurance Coverage for dental veneers

  1. Greg Hill Says:

It can be hard to find dental insurance that will cover for veneers since they normally fall into cosmetic dental services.

Since veneers are not normally listed you would need to call each company to confirm if they would or would not offer cover for veneers in your case.

Other wise pick up a dental discount plan. A dental discount plan will offer you discounted saving off of any dental service render by one of their providers.

I was a smoker for a long time too. So I really understand where you are coming from. First congrats on quitting smoking. Many people do not understand just how hard that is to do.

Now that you stop a coarse you want your smile to reelect that. My teeth were very stained up too. I had to have three whiten treatments over a period of time before they really started looking better.

Veneers can be costly I was quoted a $1000.00 per tooth. You can start to see where the cost can get to be a big issue when you are doing at least ten teeth and that just for the front teeth to be done.

I would talk to the dentist about whiten treatments and see if they think they can make your smile better by doing a few treatments.

I was never a smoke but like you my teeth were stain up by my coffee drinking ways.

I did not want veneers because they have to mess up good teeth in order to put them on. Veneers are much like fake nail they have to scratch up the surface of the tooth to make them stick.

I did have two whiten treatments six months a part. Then I learn to drink my coffee though a straw and I brush with whiten toothpaste. I not saying that you should not get veneers but make sure you really want them because you can not change your mind latter on.

Well if you do get veneers make sure you get them done by a cosmetic dentist and get them done right. I seen some really bad veneers jobs. If veneers are not put on correctly not done just right they can look really fake.

A discount dental plan will normally save you about 15 to 20 percent off the cost of having them done. Not bad when you figure they run around a $1000.00 or so a tooth.
