Do I need to pay for a family dental insurance plan if I only want it for my son

I have to get dental insurance for my son.  Not have much money I do not have dental insurance on myself right now and my X is making he get some form our 10 year old son.  Even though she get dental benefits from her job where she can just add him to her plan.

Anyway that is another topic.  I am looking and your  plan choices and do not know if I can just buy a dental insurance plan with just my son listed as the member so it is more affordable or do I have to buy a family  plan?
