Having dental insurance to help get braces for my son

Monday, Nov. 29th 2010 10:46 AM

My son is twelve and things are looking like he will be needing to have braces.  Our current family dental plan does not have Orthodontic coverages.  So I will need to be getting a plan hopefully just for my son so that we can have some help with the cost of him having braces put on.

Speaking to my dentist still have a few years let before putting on braces but I am not sure if I need to get dental insurance now or can I wait until right before he goes to have them?

  1. Kay Belson Says:

Well you could buy a dental discount plan for only your son. You can get a 20 percent saving off the cost of any type of braces.

Also since a dental discount plan has no waiting periods you can buy it when the time comes for your son to get braces and not year or more before.

An HMO dental insurance plan may also be a way to go since they too norrmally do not have waiting periods you can buy one as needed.

However not all HMO insurance plans will let you have a minor on the plan by themself. So you may have to buy a couple plan so that an adult is listed as head of household.
