What are the Benefits to having Dental Insurance
I have very good teeth so I am really only going to the dentist twice a year for basic cleaning. I just wondering what are the real benefits for me to buy a dental insurance plan. I thought I would look into one since my dentist charges $168.00 for the cleaning with X-rays but only $75.00 for a cleaning.
That being the case my yearly cost so far has only been $243.00. Since for the last three years that is all I had to have done. So I went on line looking for dental insurance that was going to provide me free X-rays and cleaning to save the $243.00 but when the plans are going to cost me between 35 -45 a month how is that saving me anything? On the low side I am still paying almost double the amount not getting anything.

That is because you are looking at the wrong type for dental insurance plans. Look into getting a dental HMO plan they normally cost much less the a PPO dental plan. Just make sure you have a dentist you can go to under the plan.

Something to keep in mind is that although we want dental insurance to cover our basic dental needs like office visits, X-rays and cleaning.
We also buy dental insurance for the possibility of larger dental needs. Services like fillings, tooth extractions, root canals, and crowns to name a few.
These type of dental services are costly and it where having dental insurance can save you up to 50 percent or more. You can see where having dental insurance for more expensive dental services, does benefit you.
For the most part we buy insurance hoping we do not have to use it. We by auto insurance in case we get into an auto accident, not so we can run into other vehicles. We get home owners insurance in case of a fire etc… Not so we can burn down our house.
You should think of dental insurance in that light. You get it in case you ever need to have major dental services and we hope we never have to have a root canal done. The point is if we do we have our insurance to help us with the ever rising cost of dental services.
