Dental Benefit, The Permanence of Dental Implants.

Friday, Oct. 10th 2014 10:51 AM

The permanence of dental implants is another benefit that they have to offer. There is a chance that you will need to replace the crown attached to your implant due to wear or injury, but the implant itself will remain anchored to your jaw bone. Compared to the cost of dentures that need to be periodically replaced, dental implants can be very cost effective in the long run.

Dental Benefit, Kids and Toothpaste.

Wednesday, Oct. 8th 2014 10:40 AM

For many parents getting your child to brush their teeth regularly can be a major accomplishment. Yet one bad habit that children may pick up is using too much toothpaste and swallowing a lot of it. Some children will even eat toothpaste if they think it taste good enough. The result of this bad habit, is too much  fluoride is ingested into the child’s body. This can cause a condition known as Fluorosis, where white or brown spots can form on the teeth in severe cases.

Yet the good news is this is one habit that is fairly easy to break. Make sure to spend time with your child explaining that a pea size drop of toothpaste is all that it takes and teach them how to correctly brush, rinse and spit properly. After a few time they will normally get the hang of it.

Dental Benefit, Taking Care of Your Dental Implants.

Monday, Oct. 6th 2014 10:31 AM

Taking care of your dental implants is just like taking care of your real teeth. Normal daily brushing and flossing is the best way to care for your dental implants. Because the implant acts like the root of a natural tooth, you can floss around it just like your natural teeth.

Unlike dentures or removable bridges, implants will not shift in your mouth, and they provide the same chewing force as a natural tooth. Dental implants are also extremely practical, since they do not require any special care like dentures. Keep in mind just like real teeth seeing your dentist regularly is also key in taking care of your dental implants and your dental health.

Thursday, Oct. 2nd 2014 5:00 AM

For many people one of the main advantages of having a dental implant or implants is that they look like your natural teeth. The implant crown is sculpted by your dentist to look just like a natural tooth, so that even up close, it would be difficult to tell the difference between the implant and the surrounding teeth.

Dental Benefit, Tips on Breaking Thumb and or Finger Sucking Habit

Tuesday, Sep. 30th 2014 10:06 AM

Most all babies will suck their thumbs/fingers this is normal.  However, by the time teeth start to come in you should ween your child from this habit since thumb sucking can cause permanent teeth to be damaged due to being moved out of natural alignment and spacing.  Here are some tips that may help your break your toddlers from thumb sucking.

1) Toddlers will sometimes suck their thumbs for comfort. The sucking sensation provides them with a sense of comfort and safety. You can remove this bad habit by offering different comforts to the child.

2) Toddlers/young children will sometimes suck their thumbs out of boredom. You can help with breaking thumb sucking out of boredom by giving the child something to do. Try to pick an activity that will use the child’s hands.

3) Ween your child by enforcing thumb sucking limits.  We all know habits can be hard to do all at once. Slowly cut down on how much your child thumb suck each day.

4) Give an alternative.  Like adults, kids find it hard to break habits if they do not have an alternative way of coping. Consider letting your child have a toy or stuff animal.

5) Point out the habit.  Not all kids are even aware that they are thumb sucking,  especially when they are bored or tired. So when you see your child thumb sucking simply request that they stop.

Dental Benefit, Homeopathic Teething Remedies are They Safe.

Friday, Sep. 26th 2014 9:36 AM

While some parents may swear by homeopathic teething drops and tablets.  Many pediatricians however, claim that the risks of homeopathic treatments far outweigh any potential benefits.   While homeopathic treatments are required by the US FDA to meet certain standards for strength, purity, and packaging, they’re not rigorously tested for safety and effectiveness the way prescription and over-the-counter medications are.

Therefor before using a homeopathic remedy, one should check with your child’s doctor or the FDA, which has recalled certain homeopathic products due to safety concerns.

Dental Benefit, Baby Dental Care and Sleeping with Bottle Braking the Habit.

Monday, Sep. 22nd 2014 9:21 AM

I a prior post dated 9/20 we talked about why you should not let your baby sleep with a baby bottle with anything other then water in it.  However, weening your child from this bad habit can be hard to break but it can be done.  If your child is taking a bottle to bed, try diluting the liquid down a little each night until the end result is just water.

Dental Benefit, Baby Dental Care and Sleeping with Bottle.

Saturday, Sep. 20th 2014 9:00 AM

I is never a good idea to let a child go to bed with a bottle of anything other then water since it can cause severe tooth decay otherwise known as BBTD or Carries. The sugar from the fluid in the bottle stays on the teeth for long periods of time causing the bacteria on the child’s teeth and the sugar to mix. This mixture forms a type of acid that eats through the enamel and makes cavities.

Teething remedies that help to treat teething pain

Thursday, Sep. 18th 2014 8:53 AM

Teething is something all babies go though normally within their first year.  For some the teething process is not to difficult but for other babies teething can be a very painful experience.  Here are some teething remedies that may help your baby though their teething process.

For teething use cold things such as a wet washcloth in a plastic bag and chill it in the freezer for an hour or so. You can also soak the washcloth in some chamomile tea before freezing this will help calm gussy babies as well as help the sleep.

You can also refrigerate pacifiers or teething rings. However you do not want to freeze these thing since they are too hard when frozen and can damage baby gums. If your baby does not like cold items then chewing on a room temperature teething ring may work. There are also teething rings that vibrate and many baby like the feel of the vibration on their gums.
