Dental Benefit, Avoiding bad candy options.
Thursday, Dec. 12th 2013 8:29 AM
Many kids eat candy throughout the year and not just at Halloween. Though given Halloween can promote more candy eating it is not the only time children and adults may choose to eat candy. Although it not advise to eat large amounts of sugary treat during any part of the year if you are going to eat sweets choosing wiser options can be kinder to your dental health.
Stay away from chewy or sticky sweets such as gummy candies, taffy, and even dried fruit. These types of candies can be a serious source of tooth decay, because they tend to get stuck in the crevices between teeth, making it nearly impossible for saliva to wash away. Sour candies are also not a wise choice. Sour candies are highly acidic and can break down tooth enamel quickly. Even so when eating sour candies avoid brushing your teeth for at least thirty minutes, otherwise you will be brushing the acid onto more of your tooth surfaces and increasing the risk of enamel erosion. Also as many people may know to much sugary snacks can cause tooth decay. Snacks with high amounts of sugar include candy corn, cookies, and cake.

Dental Benefit, How Traveling can Effect Your Breath.
Sunday, Dec. 8th 2013 8:24 AM
There are a few reasons why you may have bad breath while traveling. Bad breath can happen when traveling when salivary glands slow down the production of saliva, which allows bacteria to grow inside the mouth and bad breath to develop. Often times travelers alter their food intake while at the airport and on the plane. Either by increasing their fast food and soda intake which can leave food particles in the mouth that produce a sulfur compound and cause bad breath, or by fasting which still cause bad breath by bringing back morning breath. In addition to food changes, travelers often fail to maintain their dental hygiene habits causing bad breath by forgetting to brush and floss daily.

Links to low carb diet and bad breath where found. So how can you slim down with out the bad breath side effects? Her are some tips in combating halitosis.
1) Make sure to drink plenty of water thoughout the day. By drinking water you help to dilute the concentration of ketones. Also by drinking water it can help to cleanse teeth of excess bacteria and food debris. Bad breath can sometimes be caused by food particles caught in the teeth, and drinking water will help rinse away odor-causing particles.
2) Chewing gum. Chewing Sugarless gum with xylitol after meals can help keep bad breath away. Your saliva production increases during chewing and this can help neutralize acid production and rinse food particles from the mouth. Sugar-free gum with xylitol can also help prevent cavities. Xylitol is a natural sweetener found in plants and fruits, and research shows it inhibits the growth of Streptococcus mutans, the oral bacteria that cause cavities.
3) Maintain good dental habits. Brushinand flossing at least twice a day will not only keep your mouth healthy but will prevent odors. Cleaning the tongue with a toothbrush or tongue scraper after meals can also help alleviate odors.
4) Seeing a dentist regularly. It is important in your overall oral and dental health to keep your dental appointments. See a dentist at least twice a year more if advised by a dentist. If your halitosis continues a general dentist or doctor can help determine the source of the odor.

Saturday, Nov. 30th 2013 7:28 AM
Endodontic/Root Canal dental treatment is needed when the the pulp (The pulp: contains blood vessels, nerves, and connective tissue and creates the surrounding hard tissues of the tooth during development) becomes inflamed or infected. This inflammation or infection can have a variety of causes: such as deep decay, repeated dental procedures on the tooth, or a crack or chip in the tooth. Also, a injury to a tooth may cause pulp damage even if the tooth has no visible chips or cracks. If pulp inflammation or infection is left untreated, it can cause pain or lead to an abscess.
