Dental HMO insurance vs PPO dental insurance
I am wanting to get dental insurance for my family but just tried of looking at all the different websites offering the best dental insurance plans. They are all looking a like to me. I do not know what to get. Is PPO better? They cost so much more the HMO it makes me think there is something wrong with HMO plans. Both are insurance right? I was told not to get the discount plan because they are no good.

Yes both an HMO and PPO are dental insurance plans. It is true that HMO plans are normally much cheaper then PPO plans but that does not mean they are any worse or better the a PPO they are two completely different types of dental insurance plans.
You want to chose a plan the best fits your needs or the needs of your family putting price aside for a minute you want to review coverages and how each plans work to benefit you.
Know your needs and the need or your family before trying to shop out dental insurance it will not only be time saving for you may just make shopping for dental insurance an easier experience.
Also depending on your dental needs do not rule out dental discount plans. One reason why, A discount plans provides discounted saving off dental services that many insurance company will not even cover. Knowing your dental needs will help you decide which plan fits the best.

One of the factors would be if you want to choose your own dentist or if picking a dentist in the plan network make any difference to you.
On HMO dental plans you have to choose a dentist in their network there is not outside network coverage.
On PPO dental plans you can either pick a dentist in the network or go out side the network (note sometimes at a reduce cover so makes sure you read the plan terms.)

Nothing wrong with dental discount plans. They are useful depending on what you are trying to do. Say you have a toothache and you need to go to a dentist right away. Well with a dental discount you can do that. Since they start within the next business day of enrollment and you have no waiting periods.
Also say you want teeth whitening, dental implants, or any other dental cosmetic services well a discount plans would give you discounted saving towards those types of dental services. You need to see a specialist no problem as long as there is one in a plan go right to one. You want adult braces this would not be an issue either.
Many times people who put down discount plans either never used one or bough one thinking it was insurance at the time of purchase.
